Individual learning towards an independent life

Physical Enrichment

This year in Secondary PE, we are delighted to announce that the pupils have the opportunity to be able to engage in new sports and activities throughout the year. This decision has been made to help offer the children new experiences in an attempt for the pupils to increase their interest and engagement in physical education along with providing new opportunities for pupils to learn in and outside of school.

These lessons will now be called Physical Enrichment and will take place every week – in 2021/22 this session is 1:15 – 2:45.

How it works

Physical Enrichment in Secondary will be split up into 2 different groups, Years 7 &a8 and Years 9, 10 and 11. Even though the pupils will be split into these 2 groups, all pupils will get the same opportunities to engage in the same physical enrichment sessions throughout the year.

The yearly schedule has been split up into 6 blocks of approximately 6 weeks with each block providing an opportunity for each pupil to engage in either a Striking & Fielding activity, a Health & Fitness activity, a Net / Wall Game or an Outdoor Adventurous Activity. These are the 4 sections that we have chosen to focus our Secondary Enrichment upon as we believe it will provide all pupils with the opportunity to improve their all-round skill set and not just focusing on specific areas of their physical education.

All pupils will get the opportunity to choose which activity they would like to participate in for each 6 week block although throughout the year they will be required to choose at least 1 activity per section. For example a pupil’s 6 choices may be 2x Striking & Fielding activities, 2x Health & Fitness activities, 1x
Net/Wall Game and 1x Outdoor Adventurous Activity. This will then meet each pupil’s curriculum needs along with allowing the pupil’s to experience new and exciting sports and activities.
