Extended Schools Facilitator and Classroom Support Vacancy

Extended Schools Facilitator and Classroom Support-

  • Full time post Scale E – 33 hours per week
  • Point 18 – Point 21 – £18,870 – £20,541 fte

The Wherry School,

Hall Road,

Norwich,

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the team of The Wherry School to support young people with autism working alongside teachers and staff with the passion to deliver a truly individualised curriculum. You will be joining our school staff in a newly built and resourced specialist setting for children with a diagnosis of autism and who all possess a mainstream ability profile.

The Wherry School opened in September 2017 with 48 learners, initially in Years 1 to 8, and within four years will grow to its full capacity of 100 students across the 4-19 age range. It has been established to meet a clear educational need in the area and is supported by a Trust and educational partners, all of whom are successfully providing outstanding education and/or support to children and young people in Norfolk.

We are looking for highly motivated support staff who would like to work in an innovative learning space for autistic pupils. This is a very different and challenging role that looks for staff who are interested in developing their own skills and knowledge working with pupils with autis, both in the Classroom environment and also in the out-of-schools provision that the school offers in the holiday periods. The children in the school need support to maintain their own self-regulation in the classrooms, around the school and at times a period away from the class, perhaps playing a game, quiet in the calming spaces or even having a run around and playing some sport. We are looking for someone who is flexible, compassionate and excited about providing the best provision.

Ideally applicants should have a background in School PE/Sports or Coaching and have the skills and experience to both work in the classroom to support learning and behaviour and lead Holiday Sports Clubs, under the direction of the School’s Extended School Manager. This is a school where all children have an Education Health and Care Plan as well as a diagnosis of Autism; all children are no longer able to access learning in mainstream schools perhaps because of sensory difficulties, heightened anxiety or other autistic related behaviours.

If you are interested in this post please contact either Miss Dani Winteringham (Primary Assistant Headteacher) or Mr Robert Speck (Vice Principal/Head of Secondary of the Wherry School, at office@thewherryschool.co.uk to find out more about the role (please include a contact number in your email).
