Following a review of staffing at the new Wherry School we are delighted to offer this unique and exciting opportunity to inspire young people with autism. We are looking for a teacher with the passion to deliver a truly individualised KS3 curriculum and subject specialist delivery at KS4 from 2018/19 onwards. You will be joining our school staff in a newly built and resourced specialist setting for children with a diagnosis of autism and who all possess a mainstream ability profile.
The Wherry School will open in September 2017 with 48 learners, initially in Years 1 to 8, and within three years will grow to its full capacity of 100 students across the 4-19 age range. It has been established to meet a clear educational need in the area and is supported by a Trust and educational partners, all of whom are successfully providing outstanding education and/or support to children and young people in Norfolk.
We are looking for a Key Stage 3 teacher (although teachers with experience in the upper Primary age range may also be interested and able to support this group of learners).
The successful candidates will be qualified teachers and required, initially, to teach English, Maths, Personal and Social skills to their allocated classes (approximately 6 children per class & 2 Teaching Assistants) to personalise the learning for the children they teach and direct support staff to ensure that individual needs are met, at Key Stage 3. Key Stage 3/4 candidates need to be able to offer a secondary subject alongside their specialism.
Already a teacher, or a newly or recently qualified teacher with relevant experience of working with children and young people with autism, you have a strong track record and knowledge of Key Stage 3 and 4 Curriculum. You will demonstrate excellent knowledge of working with pupils with Special Educational Needs and possess outstanding classroom management skills which reflect the specific needs of this group of learners along with highly developed interpersonal skills. What will set you apart will be your relentless commitment to achieving high standards of teaching and learning, your passion for improving outcomes for young people with Autism and the highest aspirations for all learners you work with.
